To make matters worse

I heard a few days ago about some photos of the crisis in Lebanon/Israel being altered in Photoshop. Here is an article about it. Isn't what's going on in the world bad enough? why make things worse???

As someone who really believes in the power and responsibility of photojournalism, this makes me sick.

Tyler Hicks especially pisses me off. I used to look up to him, I've heard him speak at photojournalism confrences. If I heard him speak again I would have to confront him about that sequence of pictures. It's not even believable, it's so faked it's ridiculous.

It hurts because 98% of the journalists out there have integrity and honor. But because of these assholes who are greedy for that award winning picture and too lazy to do the work to make it honestly; people generalize and label all journalists as frauds.

Here's an example of the PLO staging the gunfight scenes we see on the evening news every night.

The media is the number one weapon of terrorism. The editors have to be smart enough to not be sheep and just take what they are given at face value.

It's hard to believe anything you see/read when you hear about this sort of thing. Still, my faith in humanity hinges on this being the work of a small percentage of the journalists in the world. Reports and photographs on this subject need no sensationalism or enhancement. The cold hard reality of what is going on is enouch. News should be reported for what it is, and let the viewers/readers decide if it has merit.

BTW, you left the "E" off "wors" in the title. :)

Blogs are wonderful things. But more so than other forms of media, blogs are prone to MISTAKES and poor fact checking. They all too easily present pseudo-facts or outright ridiculously incorrect information that ultimately just add confusion to the issues we face today.

Before you judge Tyler Hicks, make sure you know all the facts...
